Good Evening

May 6, 2010 in Site News, Social Media

Well, things are getting rolling around here, so it’s time for me to write a real first post.

I’ve got a confession to make. We currently don’t have an RV. Hopefully that will be changing soon. We have our eye on a 2001 Dutchmen Windsport.2001 Dutchmen Windsport

I’ll keep you updated on that story as it unfolds. But that doesn’t tell you about this site. I’ll do that now.

I love blogs and blogging, believing that they can be a great way to share information and express your thoughts. The one thing that I know about the RV family is that with very few exceptions they love to tell a story. It could be a disaster story about the awning from hell, or it could be an inspiring story about special time on the road. They love to share advice and are quick to ask questions of others.

I wanted to create a spot where RVers could create their own blogs to share their stories, advice, questions, answers, travelogues, and more. RV-Bloggers is the result.

But it is much more than that. In fact, you don’t even need to create a blog to be a part of RV-Bloggers. Those who sign up can, in addition, make friends, start and belong to groups, and participate in group forums. I’ve started three groups so far:

  • RV Bloggers – This is the group for everyone.
  • Wannabes – A group for those who are looking into RVing. Veteran RVers are also encouraged to join and offer their insights.
  • Newbies – The name says it all. This group is for those who are just starting out on the road.
  • Sometime soon I’ll also be adding a Veterans group, Helpers Group (for questions, answers, and advice), Groups by camper type and brand, and several others that are percolating in the back of my mind.

I’m sure it’s pretty obvious by now that this site is brand new and subject to change as it grows. I could sure use your help spreading the word. Tell your friends about the site. Invite them to join and participate. If you’re on Twitter you can follow us there.

Before I wrap this up, a short word about the software we’re using here. Right now we are running the site using WordPress 3.0 Beta-2. The great thing about this latest version is that it has merged with WordPress mu. For the social side of things we are using BuddyPress, a great plugin that adds a lot of the functionality here.

That’s it for now. I’ve got work to do. I hope you have a great time here. I look forward to talking to you.
